• Although it would be too numerous to list all of the reasons for seeking counselling, here are some examples of situations that could be indicators that it would be the right time to seek out professional help:

    Personal indicators:

    • Going through or anticipating a change in your life

    • Experiencing increased irritability that affects other areas of you life

    • Feeling your current life stressors exceed your coping mechanisms

    • Having feelings of being “stuck”

    • Finding that negative life patterns are repeating themselves

    • Having difficulty processing an event or situation that occupies your thoughts

    • Experiencing feelings of helplessness or hopelessness

    • Functioning differently than your “baseline”

    Interpersonal indicators:

    • Receiving the recommendation from those close to you to seek help

    • Requiring the objectivity from a trained professional to work through family or relationship dynamics

    • Experiencing increased relationship conflict and/or communication breakdown

    • Struggling with marital dissatisfaction and disconnectedness

    Health & Mental Health indicators:

    • Having experienced a traumatic event (physically and/or mentally)

    • Experiencing changes in your health and/or coping with a recent diagnosis

    • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed and stressed out

    • Feeling down, depressed or anxious

    • Struggling with thoughts of suicide or self-harm

    Workplace indicators:

    • Struggling with work-life imbalance

    • Experiencing a change in productivity or performance

    • Feeling burnt-out

    • Suffering a workplace injury (physical, psychological or moral)

    • Anticipating returning to work after an extended leave of absence

    • Experiencing concerns about your upcoming retirement

  • Depending on the particular issue(s) for which you are seeking counselling, therapy can be a short-term or long-term process. Some clients find that they are feeling better after just one session, while others require more sessions to adequately address their more complex concerns. At our first session, we will work together to develop a goal for your counselling needs, and to determine how frequently and how long we will need to meet.

  • Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long. However, depending your counselling needs, longer or shorter counselling sessions can be arranged.  

  • Counselling appointments available in-person, online, or by telephone.

    The online platform doxy.me is used for video counselling sessions. Doxy.me uses technology that complies with PHIPA and PIPEDA security and privacy requirements.

  • Yes, the building is accessible. There is a ramp at the front entrance and an elevator to access the office located on the 2nd floor. There also are accessible washrooms available.

  • Counselling sessions for individuals are $110.00 plus GST, per 60 minute session.

    Couples/family counselling sessions are $125.00 plus GST, per 60 minute session.

    Shorter or longer appointments are available. The session fee will be adjusted accordingly.

    Payment is due at each appointment.

    Counselling session fees may be covered by insurance plans or through an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP). Please check with your employer or insurer to inquire about the particular details of your coverage.

  • Payment for services may be made by cash, debit, credit card or e-transfer.

  • Insurance plans generally cover counselling expenses in one of two ways: through an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) or by reimbursing you for expenses paid out of pocket. 

    If your coverage is through an EAP program, you will need to initiate counselling services directly with the EAP provider. Please contact your employer or HR dept. for their contact information. 

    For insurance plans that reimburse you for expenses paid out of pocket, a receipt will be provided at each appointment, which can be used when submitting a claim.
